Auguste married Emma, who is the daughter of Jules & Lucy Rossi, a couple well-known for their contributions to the community, and my great-grandparents. Born in the picturesque town of Sanary-sur-Mer, Auguste developed a deep appreciation for the sea and the surrounding landscape. He was hired at the Chantier Naval de La Ciotat, (a bustling city in southern France,) known for its shipbuilding activities, and over the span of more than 40 years. Developing his skills to become a respected welding engineer team leader, achieving this position through his remarkable attention to detail and hands-on experience rather than formal diploma qualifications. His expertise was invaluable in guiding younger workers and ensuring the safety and quality of the projects. Additionally, during the tumultuous years of the Second World War, he served as a truck driver, a role that required both courage and resilience as he navigated through dangerous conditions to deliver essential supplies.
Auguste (Eric’s grandfather) built the house at 4 Vents in 1970 with his best friend, Angel Santini, who was a skilled bricklayer by trade. Together, they meticulously crafted each wall and corner of the main house over a two-year span, pouring their hearts into the project and using high-quality materials. The house became a symbol of their friendship and hard work, featuring intricate designs that reflected their craftsmanship and dedication. In 1983, after years of enjoying their creation, the pair embarked on a new endeavor by building an additional extension, which provided more space for family gatherings and cherished memories that they hoped would last for generations. This extension not only enhanced the beauty of the home but also served as a testament to their commitment to creating a warm and inviting environment for family and friends alike.
His brothers Marcel lived in the village of Le Castellet (where Thembi & Eric were married) and why we have a connection to the village of Le Castellet.
