Cote is a historic village seated at the bottom of Corsica’s highest mountain, casting an eternal shadow over what is said to be the cradle of Corsican culture. Once the capital of Corsica, it flourished as a center of commerce and governance, making it a pivotal location in the island’s tumultuous history. Home to the esteemed Università di Corsica Pasqual Paoli, the village not only boasts rich academic traditions but also serves as a cultural hub that draws visitors eager to learn about Corsican heritage.

The citadel that towers over the village sits atop ancient granite spur, while the surrounding lush landscapes offer breathtaking views of the island’s rugged beauty, and home to the Museum Di a Corsica stands as a testament to history and process, embodying the resilience and spirit of the Corsican people throughout the ages.

We were planning to enjoy dinner in the village, yet many of the restaurants were closed for the Christmas holiday. We found a charming little restaurant in Paoli square. Although I Corsica is famous for it’s charcuterie, I had a simple salad with sliced Copa, regional dried beef. Exploring Corte together in tranquility accomplished the first piece of advice I received from a friend/mentor who has been happily married for over 25 years- “Discover new things together”…
