Summer in the Vineyard

May which happens to be my favorite month of the year has come and gone with the lightning speed.

June 1 ushers in the start of the summer season here on our farm, bringing with it a vibrant tapestry of colors as flowers bloom and crops begin to flourish, painting the landscape in a myriad of hues that delight the senses. The sun shines more brightly, illuminating the lush green fields and warming the soil, which encourages our vegetables to sprout and thrive, creating a bountiful atmosphere filled with anticipation for the harvest ahead. As the days grow longer, the air becomes fragrant with the sweet scent of ripening fruits, and the gentle hum of bees busy at work resonates throughout the farm. The fragile chartreuse buds that produce Syrah grapes dangle from the vines like chandelier earrings, shimmering in the sunlight, while the promise of a rich, full-bodied wine dances on the horizon of each vine’s potential.

The majestic tree that stands just outside our balcony, shielding us from overexposure to the sun’s rays reflected off the azure sea, just beyond the vineyard, gives shade to the chickens and our nursery, creating a tranquil environment that invites both relaxation and enjoyment.

There are trees of almond, olive, and berries, each contributing to the rich tapestry of this landscape. The delicate fragrance of blooming almond blossoms mingles with the earthy scent of ripe olives, and sea air. And the crown jewel is our view of Six-Forts Le Plage, a stunning vista that offers a mesmerizing panorama of rolling waves and golden sands. Being surrounded by such abundance is inspiring, inviting one to pause, reflect, and appreciate the simple yet profound gifts that the earth generously provides.

Mon beau-père (father in law) rides his tractor with great pride every Sunday morning, as the sun begins to rise over the fields. The tractor is more than a vehicle; it symbolizes the hard work and dedication that has been poured into cultivating the land over the years, making each ride a cherished moment of connection with nature and his family heritage.

I am ever grateful to be welcomed into this family and rich heritage, as it has provided me with not only a sense of belonging and grounding. The warmth and love I have experienced here have opened my eyes to the importance of connection and togetherness, reinforcing the bonds that tie us through generations.
