Our encore

I’m slowly coming to terms with having an encore ceremony since, as a New York City bride over 50, I prioritize building our dream life over the wedding itself. Despite asking my husband multiple times about investing in a second wedding, he consistently agrees. Now, with our date set for September 4, I’m ready to reimagine our vows. While browsing for wedding gowns, I showed my husband my budget-friendly options, but when he saw the prices around €350, he panicked. This reaction underscores my concerns about the costs associated with a second wedding; while I don’t believe weddings need to be extravagant, some elements, like the dress, require investment.

A friend/modiste/seamstress has offered to make my gown at cost. Although I remain committed to recycling my prior gown with a twist. However, the more I think about it, this is something that happens once in a lifetime; I deserve to have that moment, as well as he deserves to have that moment to watch me ascend down the aisle in something breathtakingly different.

I decided to have a little fun; I plugged the image of a playful, unique gown into two different AI programs and asked it to create printable patterns along with estimated fabric costs. I was pleasantly surprised at the response; apparently, my dream gown is possible for the low cost of 22 €60, minus labor, of course. After translating the pattern instructions into French, I have sent them to our friend to verify the accuracy and see if it’s possible within the timeframe. We’ll see what happens till next time….
