I’ll admit it—I was a little resistant at first. Part of me thought, “Shouldn’t we be investing our time and money elsewhere?” But as the day approached, I realized just how blessed I truly am. I have the most incredible husband—one who not only wanted to marry me, but was excited to marry me a second time. That in itself is a gift beyond measure.

And let me tell you: it was FABULOUS.

Even with the little hiccups that tested my resolve, my girls held me together. One snapped me out of my stress with a sharp, “NO, we don’t get down like dat,” while the other asked—dead serious—“Is she on drugs?” We all burst out laughing, and just like that, the tension lifted.

From that moment on, it was pure magic.

I wanted everyone who attended to feel part of our union, so I built in rituals and activities that honored community and connection. We blessed the rings. My dear friend serenaded me as I walked toward Eric. A bubble machine created a whimsical glow as photographers captured the golden light just two hours before sunset. Aperitifs flowed—shrimp with avocado dip, mini cheeseburgers, and mimosas that had everyone smiling.

The DJ was flawless, weaving our handpicked music into the rhythm of the evening, guiding the energy and timing of every moment.

Thomas, who officiated, retold our “meet-cute” story so beautifully that I had to catch my breath. It suddenly dawned on me at that moment—I now have a son. And our daughter, usually more introverted, took it upon herself to warmly greet our non-French-speaking guest, recognizing his quietness and making sure he felt welcome. My heart swelled with pride.

The night only grew more joyful from there. My American friends and I lit up the dance floor—twerking, grinding, and pulling everyone in to celebrate. Even my father-in-law danced. Eric’s nephew baked our wedding cake, his twin sister masterfully applied my makeup, and their mom baked the most exquisite cookies. Every detail carried the touch of love.

Guests kept telling us it was the best time they’d had in years—some even said in a decade. My dear friend, who traveled over 15 hours from the U.S., told me the experience changed her life. Honestly, it changed ours too.

In the end, every penny, every late night of planning, and every tiny moment of stress was worth it. Because what we created wasn’t just a wedding—it was a celebration of love, family, friendship, and the beautiful mess of blending cultures and lives.

It was everything I didn’t know I needed. And it was perfect.
