Exploring my husband’s history
I overheard Eric (the night prior) mention he had a surprise planned for me. The surprise would be a visit to Porto Veccio. Porto Veccio is a Corsican village surrounded by pristine beaches, a marina dotted with yachts against the 16th century citadel.
We were both disappointed that many of the specialty stores we’re closed for the holidays. Corsica is well known for its charcuterie. One store that is said to be the pinnacle of Corsican charcuterie resides in Porto Vecchio (closed.) A jeweler, where Eric hoped to refashion some vintage gold to make our wedding bands (also closed.)
This beautiful sojourn has been many things. It has been a honeymoon, a Christmas visit, and so much more. Most importantly, it has offered an incredible opportunity. I have experienced the charming villages. I have seen breathtaking sights. The warm family connections are deeply rooted in my husband’s childhood. I have walked the footsteps of ancient civilizations. I learned about the traditions that shaped his early years. This has connect us on a deeper level and made our bond even stronger. We shared laughter with his family around the dinner table. We recounted stories of his youth under the starlit sky. The flavors of the local cuisine contributed to an unforgettable tapestry of memories. We will cherish these memories forever.
