The raw truth about making content creation your full-time job in the age of 3-second attention spans

I made content creation my full-time job.

Not as a side hustle. Not as a “see where this goes” experiment. As my actual, bills-paying, identity-defining, all-in career.

And most days? I wake up with a pinched nerve and throbbing pain pulsating from the shoulders into my eye socket. The last thing I want to do is sit in front of my laptop. Then I remember how fortunate I am, to have the choice to create.

Because here’s what nobody tells you about building a brand in 2025: nobody reads anymore.

The Brutal Reality of the Creator Economy

“Statista reports there are now over 200 million creators globally, ranging from full-time digital entrepreneurs to part-time hobbyists”, retrieved from https://www.forbes.com/sites/lowes-creator/2025/06/16/how-the-creator-economy-is-reshaping-modern-marketing–and-why-brands-are-paying-attention/

They scroll. They swipe. They double-tap.

But read? Actually stop, focus, and consume the 2,000 words you poured your heart into at 2 AM while questioning your entire life? Rarely.

I watch my analytics like a hawk:

  • Average read time: 47 seconds
  • Bounce rate: 78%
  • Subscribers who open emails: 22%
  • Comments on my most vulnerable post: 0

Zero.

I spent six hours writing about the day I almost gave up on my French dream, editing photos of Mediterranean sunsets, crafting the perfect headline, optimizing for SEO, creating graphics, scheduling across platforms.

And the internet responded with deafening silence.

When Building Your Platform Becomes Your Full-Time Job

Here’s the beautiful, terrifying privilege I’ve been given: I can focus solely on building this platform.

Not squeeze it in after working a 15 hour day. Not sacrifice sleep to create content. Not choosing between paying rent and pursuing my passion.

I have the space, the time, and the support to make this work.

And somehow, that makes the silence even louder.

Because if I’m doing this full-time and still struggling to gain traction, what does that say? What am I doing wrong? Why isn’t this working?

The pressure hits differently when this isn’t your side project—it’s your entire identity.

The Question That Haunts Me:

If no one’s watching or reading, am I really a creator? If no one’s engaging, am I actually building a community? If the metrics say I’m failing, does my message even matter?

The Objective That Keeps Me Going

But then I remember why I’m doing this.

My objective isn’t just to build a successful blog.

It’s to inspire others to choose courage over comfort.

To show women that it’s not too late to completely reinvent your life.

To prove that taking the leap—even when you can’t see where you’ll land—is worth it.

And here’s the uncomfortable truth I’m learning:

You can’t inspire others to be courageous if you quit when things get hard.
